Early Cancer Diagnosis
An Urgent Unmet Medical Need
Early Cancer Diagnosis
The Problem
- Cancer is rapidly becoming a major cause for mortality in low-to-middle income countries.
- If diagnosed early, over 90% of patients can be cured by small surgical interventions or radiotherapy alone.
- By contrast, late-stage cancer is generally incurable even when surgery is combined with expensive modalities such as chemotherapy or immunotherapy.
- Currently, most cancer patients in sub-Saharan Africa present late as emergencies and resources are spent on interventions that are ultimately futile.
- Patients with late-stage cancer have to travel abroad to receive complex treatment which is expensive and destroys the final moments of their lives.
Our Solution
- We have developed an innovative approach to diagnose cancer from a simple blood draw called liquid biopsy.
- Performing this test on a yearly basis significantly reduces the number of patients diagnosed with late-stage cancer.
- Liquid biopsies allow more patients to be cured with small and effective surgical interventions, thereby avoiding futile oncology tourism and ultimately saving lives.
Our mission is to save the lives of young children and adults by leveraging our intellectual property and know-how to enable precise and rapid diagnosis of inherited blood disorders, infectious diseases and early-stage cancer in sub-Saharan Africa.
